A creative advertising duo have created a tongue-in-cheek campaign as a way to mock the so-called 'tampon tax'. Recently a motion to remove the tax currently levied on women's sanitary products was defeated in the House of Commons. The tax means women pay a five per cent VAT levy on these items, which are classified as 'non-essential luxury items' by the European Union (EU). The vote came after an online petition 'Stop taxing periods. Period' attracted more than 250,000 signatures. Frustrated after reading about the 'tampon tax' row creative advertising team Sali Horsey and Zoe Nash wanted to do something to demonstrate how ridiculous it is. So they created a spoof ad campaign mocking the idea that tampons are luxury items. This campaign sees tampons displayed in the same way that luxury items might be - including jewellery and make-up - along with the tagline 'the latest luxury item?'.
